About
Griv.nz was founded by Olivia Schaw with the intention of not following the set ‘rules’ or ‘ guidelines’ of how to start a fashion brand. Being made aware during her study of how desperate the fashion industry is in need of change, Olivia became passionate about creating an alternative way of approaching fashion and marketing. Olivia often struggles with the conflict between producing clothing and a world that does not need any more of it. It seems hypocritical to be preaching ‘buy less!’ while also trying to sell you more. So griv.nz was born. A clothing brand that aims to sell as little clothing as possible but desires to be a light of positivity and joy in an otherwise overwhelming industry.
Positivity and Joy
There will always be an aim to be a light in this industry. Fashion can be amazing, uplifting and it has the ability to bring joy and confidence to the wearer. If there is truly a love for your clothing there comes with that the care it deserves, to make the garment last as long as possible and there lies the aim… longevity. Joy leads to love, leads to care, leads to longevity and so the life of the garment is preserved and there isn’t a need to replace it.

Negativity and fear will not get us anywhere but neither will naivety. There is a balance of being aware of negative impacts but choosing to look at the positive, the small things you can do as an individual to make a difference if we all do it collectively.
The Zero Waste Project
Intentional design is one way griv hopes to make positive change in the fashion industry. One aspect that often goes un-noticed is what happens to the scraps cut off before products are even made. If you’ve ever sewn something yourself you know that there is often a little pile of fabric scraps at the end. Consider this on a mass produced level?
Zero waste is a technique where the design of the garment, with specific consideration for the fabric lay, allows the finished product to be made with minimal to no waste. This, paired with the philosophy less is more, will begin the journey towards a healthier environment for us all to enjoy. Less clutter and more consideration.
